5 Greatest RCB Batters in IPL History

Royal Challengers Bangalore has had one of the most prolific batting rosters among franchises all over the world. The RCB never failed to entertain spectators with players such as Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers. Therefore, in the IPL, RCB has accumulated an impressive record as a batting powerhouse.

RCB has played in some of the highest-scoring games in IPL history and scored over 200 multiple times. They also hold the record for the highest team total of 263/5 against Pune Warriors India in 2013. In this article, we will take a look at RCB’s five greatest batters in the IPL.

Virat Kohli

Kohli is undeniably the most successful batter in the history of RCB as well as in the history of the IPL. He has been a vital part of the franchise since the inaugural season in 2008 and has captained the side since 2013. Kohli has been a run machine for RCB and has scored 7048 runs in 229 innings at an average of 36.32 and a strike rate of 130.25.

Even though his strike rate might not be as prolific as the other modern-day T20 batters, he is a class act when it comes to turning the game on its own. His best came in the 9th edition of IPL, where he scored 973 runs and led the team to the final.

AB de Villiers

De Villiers is the epitome of a modern-day batter with a destructive approach to the game. With RCB since 2011, the wicket-keeper batter has played an integral role in winning important matches for the franchise.

At RCB, he is just behind Kohli as the second-highest run-scorer with 4522 runs in 145 innings at an average of 41.10 and a strike rate of 158.33. At RCB, Mr.360 has scored 40 half-centuries and three centuries. He was at his finest in 2016 when he scored 687 runs and took RCB to the final.

Chris Gayle

There’s no doubt that Chris Gayle is the most destructive and dominant player in T20 cricket. He joined the Royal Challengers in 2011 and came out swinging his bat heavily. Despite declining in his final season, the aggressive opener has scored 3420 runs for RCB at an average of 43.29 and a strike rate of 154.4.

On his day, he was a treat to watch and played some of the most entertaining innings in IPL history. The finest was when he smoked an unbeaten 175 against PWI in 2013, which is the highest individual T20 score.

Glen Maxwell

All-rounder Glen Maxwell is a newcomer to the RCB franchise, but he has already made a name for himself with his solid batting record during his brief stint. He has scored 814 runs in 27 innings with an average of 35.39 and a strike rate of 152.43. With just two seasons of playing, Maxwell is already the seventh-highest run scorer in franchise history.

Ross Taylor

Ross Taylor has also been an underrated performer for the RCB. Although his time with RCB was limited, he had two impactful seasons, where he played a few sensible knocks to help the team.

The middle-order batter scored 733 runs in 30 innings with an average of 31.86 and a strike rate of 148.68. In 2008, he was instrumental to the team’s success.
