BCCI announces WPL team owners

Official Name (WPL)
All media outlets were reporting it to be Women IPL, however BCCI have announced that it is Women Premiere League. BCCI further said that WPL would take women cricket to new heights. Moreover, it further expressed hope that it would serve as a stepping stone in not only popularizing the game. But, would also attract new girls who wish to pursue their career in cricket. BCCI is confident that the league would bring in money from brands, businesses and advertisers which would be a huge booster for the sport.

Team Owners of Women Premiere League
The combined net worth of all five teams of WPL is estimated to be around INR 4670 crore. Hence, by these numbers the initial value of WPL is greater than that of inaugural IPL. BCCI has also announced the team owners of five participating teams. The highest bid was placed for INR 1289 crore by the Adani Group for Ahmedabad team.
Moreover, three IPL team owners also successfully purchased three teams, these include Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals. Capri Global Holdings won the rights for Lucknow team for a whooping INR 757 crore.
It is evident that BCCI wants to turn WPL into the biggest Women Cricket League around the globe. The inaugural season is all set to take place in few months time and that would tell whether the massive bids were worth it for the owners or not.
