Celebrating Rohit Sharma’s Milestone: His 50th Test Match on WTC Final

In what will be his 50th Test Match, Rohit is getting ready to captain India in the WTC final. He used the word “grind” to describe how to succeed in England, which was interesting to hear.

Rohit as a Test Opener was a Fruitful Decision

Like MS Dhoni, who in 2013 saved his mediocre ODI career by starting him at first base. When playing South Africa at home four years ago, Kohli and Shastri chose to open with Rohit, sparking a resurgence. Rohit has scored 1794 runs at a 52.76 average in the 22 Tests he has started throughout the course of the two WTC cycles.

Rohit Playing His 50th Test Match

Due to unreliable early results, even he would not have been certain of participating in his 50th Test. His 83 at Lord’s and his 127 at The Oval in the 2021 Test series were batting tutorials on restraint and playing close to the body. Over the course of five Test matches that English summer, including the previous WTC championship match against New Zealand in Southampton, he scored 432 runs.

To Rohit, England has Been Both Kind and Terrible

He was benched for the 2018 Test series, but in the 2019 World Cup, India’s march to the semifinals included 648 runs and a record five hundreds from him. His strong beginning stands alongside the tournament’s player of the year, Shikhar Dhawan, served as the cornerstone of India’s victory in the 2013 Champions Trophy in England. His 127 at the oval in the 2021 Test series and his 83 at Lord’s served as batting clinics for restraint and playing close to the body. He made 432 runs in five Test matches in English summer, including the prior WTC championship game in Southampton versus New Zealand.

Rohit is aware that in addition to setting up a strong start, he also bears the responsibility of leading India to victory in a major international competition—something that fans demand as their right and something that many people believed would be possible with just a simple change of leadership from Kohli to Rohit, thanks to his success for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
