The sixth match of IPL 2023 was held at Chepuk on 3rd April. It was a high scoring game where CSK held their nerve at the end and defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs. Here is the post-match analysis alongside match highlights of CSK vs LSG.
CSK vs LSG: Match Summary
CSK fans celebrated Dhoni’s homecoming in style as the team won the match in the home stadium. After losing the toss Dhoni XI was put on to bat. The openers got to a flier and piled up 110 runs in mere nine overs, both Conway and Gaikwad were phenomenal with the bat. Bishnoi drew first blood when he outfoxed Gaikwad and Conway followed soon. Player of the Match Moeen Ali also played a cameo of 19 runs. CSK raked up 217 runs in 20 overs, thanks to the late onslaught of Ambati Rayudu. Dhoni finished off the innings in his signature style with two gigantic sixes. Mark Wood was the pick of bowlers as he claimed 3 scalps, however he also went on for 49 runs.
In reply LSG’s Kyle Mayers came on guns blazing and started going after CSK bowlers from the very first ball. The West Indian had already amassed 53 runs off only 22 balls before he was removed by Moeen Ali. Moeen went on to pick 4 wickets and dented the hopes of LSG. Although Nicholas Pooran and later Mark Wood tried to make up for the slow middle overs, but it was too little too late. CSK won the match by 12 runs.
Takeaways from the game
Moeen Ali was named Player of the Match for his phenomenal all-around performance. If CSK wants to win the title for Dhoni, Moeen has to perform like this in upcoming matches as well. However, the form of Ben Stokes is a constant worry for CSK, they are relying heavily on him and have even paid a hefty amount for him. He could not enter double figures in batting and in his only over, he gave away 18 runs. For LSG the good thing is that their opener Kyle Mayers is in good form, and he would surely prove helpful in coming games as well. Bowling of both teams was well below par, apart from the exception of Moeen Ali.
