First Innings

GT won the toss and the captain Hardik Pandya decided to bowl first. His bowlers responded positively and managed to restrict DC to 162. Mohammed Shami started the proceedings for GT. The ball was swinging and experienced bowler had to find his line and length, which he eventually did in second over. He dismissed Prithvi Shaw for seven and Mitchell Marsh for four. A few overs later Alzarri Joseph picked up two in two as he dismissed DC captain Warner and bounced out Russow.  Axar Patel provided the much needed late surge and took DC to a respectable total of 162.

Second Innings

In reply, Gujrat Titans had a very dodgy start, Saha and Shubman Gill were removed by Nortje. A couple of overs later captain Hardik Pandya was also dismissed, at this moment GT looked in shambles.  But Vijay Shankar who was brought in as an impact player alongside Sudharsan made a healthy partnership of 50 and put GT back into the hunt. David Miller also helped GT’s efforts as he contributed with 31 off just 16 balls.

Takeaways

In the end it was a close game, and both teams could look back and take away many positives from it. One concern that GT might have is the captaincy of Pandya. After having DC four down, Hardik should have gone for the kill, but he instead went on the back foot. He also introduced Rashid Khan pretty late in the innings and by then the batter had settled down. Moreover, for GT the form of Sarfraz Khan remains a big question, the batter could only make 30 and that too with a strike rate less than 100, which is a cardinal sin in T20s.
