Cummins was the Hero of Ashes Win
On Tuesday, Cummins was the main character. Australia was in jeopardy when he took the field because 72 more points were needed for victory and the number of available wickets was dwindling. With 25 overs remaining in the day, Australia might have chosen to try to hold on for a draw in a different scenario. But not Cummins, who scored 14 runs off Joe Root‘s subsequent over to eliminate the possibility of a tie match. On day five in Birmingham, Cummins was the hero for Australia, striking an undefeated 44 as the visitors pulled off an incredible chase of 281 to win the series.

The victory follows one of the most trying times in his life, which began in March after his mother Maria passed away from breast cancer. Due to Maria’s illness, Cummins had to leave this year’s tour of India early in order to return home and be by her bedside. The Cummins family has long been devoted cricket fans of their kid. Over the course of his career, they have consistently attended Test matches. It was very sweet, and Cummins added, “I just feel lucky to have Dad here. He’s been here all week.”
