Second Innings

Kolkata Knight Riders in reply got to a sluggish start and the team struggled in the first couple of overs. Both openers got out cheaply, and in walked Iyer, who was the impact player. He alongside skipper Nitish Rana took the charge and kept KKR in the hunt. Iyer batted superbly and made 83 off just 40 balls. It seemed like KKR would easily chase it down but Rashid Khan in 16th over, dismissed Russell, Narine, and Thakur on consecutive balls and claimed a hat-trick. Suddenly KKR were 155/7 from 154/4 in a space of just four deliveries. Fast forward to last over, KKR required 29 runs, Umesh Yadav took a single off the first ball and handed the strike to Rinku Singh, who smashed the second ball over extra cover for a six. The commentator praised the shot but also said that sadly it would not be in a wining cause. But Rinku Singh was batting like he was possessed, he deposited the next four balls over the boundary and won it for his side.  KKR won the match by three wickets.

Takeaways

In the end this was one of those matches where one man stole the entire limelight, although there were good performances from both sides, but Rinku Singh eclipsed them all with his heroics. For Gujrat Titans, it was a nightmare, which they soon would like to forget but there are positives as well. Rashid Khan’s hat-trick and  Vijay Shankar getting few runs would surely be a booster for the team in the upcoming matches. For KKR, Iyer and Rana getting runs was great but the troubling thought for them is the form of Andre Russell. He has not found his touch and KKR needs him badly as they rely on him heavily as a match finisher.

Let us know what you think of Rinku Singh’s sixes.
