In the IPL 2023, Arjun Tendulkar is “Following in His Father’s Footsteps: His Modesty Shines as He Shines”

Like father, Arjun remained modest when Ravi Shastri asked about his new IPL feat and steered away the discussion to the match

Jr. Tendulkar’s Era

Tendulkar always takes centre stage when he steps onto the field. It was true back then, during Sachin’s 24-year career, and it is still true today, as his son Arjun has started his IPL career. Arjun was given a new, more challenging role by Rohit Sharma during Tuesday’s IPL 2023 match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, and he stole the show with his first IPL wicket in the game’s final over by overshadowing Cameron Green’s all-around brilliance. When Ravi Shastri inquired about his latest IPL accomplishment, Arjun, like his father, remained modest and diverted the conversation to the game.

Arjun displayed clarity of thought when given the task of defending 20 runs in the final over by captain Rohit Sharma. He began by taking the ball away from Abdul Samad and then shifted his attention to nailing those perfect yorkers as he gave up only six runs in five balls while picking up his first IPL wicket by dismissing Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Arjun and Shastri gathered for a post-game discussion

When Arjun and Shastri gathered for a post-game discussion after the game, the former India all-rounder was overjoyed and asked the young man how he felt about his accomplishment, adding, “You’ve gone one up on Sachin.” Shastri reminded Arjun that Sachin failed to secure a wicket in his 78 IPL games for the Mumbai Indians between 2008 and 2013. Sachin only threw 36 balls over the course of six seasons. But Arjun was modest in his response, saying: “Obviously, getting my first IPL wicket was fantastic. I simply had to concentrate on the task at hand, the plan, and carrying it out, he said.

In response to a question regarding his intentions for the final over, he stated: “Our plan was just to bowl wide and put the long boundary into play, forcing the batsman to hit it to the longer side. I enjoy bowling, and whenever the captain asks me to, I am happy to do so as long as I follow the team’s strategy and give it my all.

Bishop Remembers Father Tendulkar

In the meantime, Ian Bishop was interested in the conversations Sachin Tendulkar has with his father. The 23-year-old revealed: “We (Sachin Tendulkar and him) talk about cricket, we discuss tactics before the game, and he tells me to back what I practise every game.”

Arjun might be expected to play a bigger role in the starting XI given his outstanding performance on Tuesday. Not to mention, he is a multifaceted player with a century in the Ranji Trophy.
