IND vs ENG: Shami hopes to return in England Tests

Following an ankle injury, Mohammed Shami said that his recovery is “on track” and that he wants to play again in India’s five-Test series against England that starts on January 25.

“My rehabilitation is well on track and the medical experts at NCA are happy with my progress,” he told the Times of India. “My ankle feels a little stiff, but that’s okay.” I have started training again, and I think I will be able to play in the England match again.

Shami’s inclusion in India’s Test squad for the two matches in South Africa was subject to fitness. However, he did not travel with the team and subsequently withdrawn from the series, which India drew 1-1 by winning the second Test in Cape Town, as he did not recover in time. His name did not appear in India’s T20I squad for the matches against Afghanistan on January 11, 14, and 17.

Shami Eager to Return

“We did well in the second Test,” Shami said of India’s showing in South Africa. “Everyone did their part, and our bowling was great.” India did a great job of coming back to tie the series. I missed it because I was hurt, but I want to play professional cricket again as soon as possible. I hope to be able to play again against England.”

Shami Honored with Arjuna Award

On January 9, Shami was in Delhi to accept the Arjuna Award, which is India’s second-highest sporting accolade after the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna.

Shami was the recipient of the Arjuna Award. With 24 wickets in just seven games, he had a strike rate of 12.20 and an average of 10.70. And making him the player with the best wicket-taking total at the 2023 One-Day International World Cup.

India play England in five Tests in Hyderabad (Jan 25-29), Visakhapatnam (Feb 2-6), Rajkot (Feb 15-19), Ranchi (Feb 23-27) and Dharamsala (Mar 7-11). The series will be India’s third in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, where they currently are in second place behind Australia.
