Jasprit Bumrah Claims No. 1 Test Bowler Ranking for India

Jasprit Bumrah is the first Indian fast bowler to make the top of the ICC’s list of the best Test bowlers. Bumrah moved up three spots to become named No. 1. He takes over the top spot from his teammate R Ashwin. He had been ranked as high as No. 3 before this.

On the retroactive Test bowlers’ table, Kapil Dev was No. 2 from December 1979 to February 1980. Zaheer Khan was No. 3 in October-November 2010 alongside Bumrah.

Bumrah’s Remarkable Performance

Bumrah’s rise comes after he took 9 wickets for 91 runs in the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam. He was named Player of the Match as India tied the series 1-1. He got his tenth five-for in just his 34th Test match, and six of those wickets came in the first innings. At the end of the match, he was the fastest Indian to 150 Test wickets.

Bumrah’s Remarkable Performance

He put India ahead with a spell of two-way reverse swing. He got Joe Root to edge to slip and then hit Ollie Pope with a hot inswinging yorker that broke both middle and leg stumps. After that, he got rid of Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes, giving India a 143-run lead in the first test.

Bumrah’s Series Impact

Jasprit Bumrah also made a difference in the second innings, where he took 3 for 46. Ben Foakes and Tom Hartley were making it hard for England to reach 399 runs. Bumrah got Foakes and bowled him with a slower off-break, which fooled him.

With 15 hits at 10.67, Bumrah has taken the most wickets in the series so far. Indian lost the first Test in Hyderabad by 28 runs, but he took six wickets.

At the same time, India’s opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also made a lot of progress among Test bowlers. After getting his best score of 209 in Visakhapatnam, Jaiswal jumped 37 spots to No. 29. His English teammate Zak Crawley also did well in the Test. He scored 76 and 73, moving up eight spots to No. 22.

With scores of 118 and 109 in the first Test against South Africa in Mount Maunganui, Kane Williamson is still the best batter in Tests.
