Kane Williamson returns to the NZ side for World Cup Preparations

Kane Williamson is still getting better after having surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. He has started to face throwdowns in the nets again.

Williamson shared a short video of himself batting on Instagram on August 1, with the caption “Nice to be back in the nets with the bat in hand for a few throws.”

Injury In IPL

Kane Williamson fractured his ACL in the IPL 2023 opener for Gujarat Titans on March 31. He saved a six from Chennai Super Kings starter Ruturaj Gaikwad by jumping up on the deep square leg boundary, but he landed awkwardly on his right leg and went down. He dragged off the field and missed the IPL and maybe the 2023 ODI World Cup.

The 32-year-old got injured following a nasty fall while fielding on the boundary during the CSK innings. He had limped off the field in the 13th over on Friday.

Williamson, who was making his Gujarat Titans debut, intercepted a ball headed for a possible six off CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad’s bat.

He managed to palm the ball into the field of play before it bounced onto the boundary ropes. But he fell awkwardly on the ground and clutched his right knee in pain.

He was taken off after receiving on-field treatment and did not come back to ba with B Sai Sudharsan coming in as a substitute fielder first and later he took Williamson’s place in the Titans’ playing XI under the Impact Player rule.

Kane Williamson Practice session

Williamson went to New Zealand and had surgery in April, and it was speculated that if he wasn’t fit for the World Cup in India, he might still mentor the team.

In June, Williamson said he had not given up on playing the World Cup and that he might recover in time for the tournament, which begins with New Zealand vs. England in Ahmedabad on October 5.

“Very much just trying to keep it week-to-week at the moment,” Williamson said in June. “I haven’t experienced such a long-term injury before, but talking to other people that have, the trip is a bit of a lengthy one so if you look too far ahead, it probably may get a little bit intimidating.
