Matheesha Pathirana

Cricketer Matheesha Pathirana represents Sri Lanka and was born on December 18, 2002.Because he modelled his bowling motion after Lasith Malinga, he has been referred to as Baby Malinga. He was selected for the SLC Greys team in August 2021 in preparation for the SLC Invitational T20 League. On August 22, 2021, he played his first game of Twenty20 for SLC Greys in the SLC Invitational T20 League. Prior to his Twenty20 debut, he was part of Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In January 2022, he was named in Sri Lanka’s team for the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.

Franchise cricket
As a replacement for Adam Milne, Pathirana was signed by the Chennai Super Kings In April 2022. He made his debut against the Gujarat Titans. In the very first ball, he took the wicket of Shubman Gill, becoming the first Sri Lankan and ninth overall to achieve the feat in IPL. In the Lanka Premier League he was signed by the Kandy Falcons for the third edition in 2022

International Career
In May 2022, Matheesha Pathirana was named in Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 International (T20I) against Australia. However, he did not play the series due to an injury. Same year in August, he was named in Sri Lanka’s T20I squad for the 2022 Asia Cup and made his T20I debut in an Asia Cup 27 against Afghanisthan. He just played one international match where bowled one over and gave sixteen runs.
