New Zealand Clinches 2023 ODI Series with Impressive Win Against Sri Lanka

In the third ODI between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, the Kiwis chased down a meagre target of 158 runs, winning the game by six wickets and sealing the series 2-0. Despite losing four early wickets, Will Young 86* (113) and Henry Nicholls 44* (52) steadied the ship with a crucial 100-run partnership to guide New Zealand to victory.

Kiwis Bowling Attack Restricted the Sri Lankans to a Small Target

The win was set up by an excellent bowling performance from Daryl Mitchell, Henry Shipley, and Matt Henry, who refused to let the Sri Lankan batters settle and picked up wickets at regular intervals. Pathum Nissanka was the only Lankan batter who managed to put up a fight, scoring a half-century before eventually departing. However, the Kiwi trio remained relentless, each picking up three wickets to bowl out Sri Lanka for a paltry 157 runs.

Best Performances of the Series

Will Young 86* (113) was nominated for the Player of the Match award for his glorious batting, while the Player of the Series award was given to Henry Shipley for his fabulous performance with the bowl.

This impressive victory secured New Zealand’s series and highlighted the team’s depth and resilience. With multiple players stepping up in batting and bowling, the Kiwis proved that they are a force to be reckoned with in the ODI format.
