Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw, an international cricketer for India who was born on November 9, 1999, participated in all formats of the game. He presently competes for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League and Mumbai in domestic cricket. He made his India debut at the age of 18, and he currently holds the record for being the debutant with the youngest test century. Prior to the Tata IPL Auction 2022, Delhi Capitals decided to keep him on. The Indian team won the 2018 Under-19 World Cup when he served as captain.

Domestic Career
On February 25, 2017, Shaw made his List A debut for Mumbai in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy. In November 2017, while batting for Mumbai in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, he recorded his second straight century and fourth in five first-class games since making his debut. On June 19, 2018, Prithivi scored 132 runs and hit his first List A century against Leicestershire. Right handed batsman was included in India A’s roster for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy in October 2018. Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Pondicherry in February 2021, Prithvi Shaw hit an undefeated double-century (227* off 152) without losing a wicket. The highest individual score in the history of the competition is currently Shaw’s 227*. Prithvi Shaw now holds the record for the highest List A score by a skipper in Men’s cricket after reaching 227* against Pondicherry in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match. Most runs ever scored in a single season was 827, which he scored in the same competition.
On 12 January 2023, in Ranji trophy he scored 379 in an inning against Assam, which is the second highest first class score by an Indian player behind B. B. Nimbalkar of Maharashtra cricket team. He captained Mumbai in 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy and the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy, reaching the final on both occasions. Mumbai beat Uttar Pradesh in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare final but lost to Chandrakant Pandit‘s Madhya Pradesh in 2021 Ranji final. He is the only Indian Cricketer with a 50+ First Class average, 50+ List A average and 150+ T20 Strike Rate.

IPL Career and Statistics
Shaw was purchased by the Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 IPL auction in January for 1.2 crores. At the age of 18 years and 165 days, Shaw made history by opening the batting for Delhi Daredevils against Kings XI Punjab on April 23, 2018, making history as the youngest player to do so in the history of the Indian Premier League. Additionally, he made a strong IPL debut, scoring 22 runs in just 10 balls. Along with Sanju Samson, Prithvi Shaw became the joint-youngest player to register an IPL fifty on April 27, 2018, against the Kolkata Knight Riders (at the age of 18 years and 169 days). His explosive 62-run innings against KKR gave Delhi Daredevils a comfortable 55-run victory. Shaw’s six boundaries off Shivam Mavi in the first over of the Delhi innings on April 29, 2021, became him the second player after Ajinkya Rahane to score six boundaries in an IPL over.

International Career and Statistics
October 4, 2018, Shaw played in his first Test against the West Indies. In that game, he reached his first century in a Test and made history by becoming India’s (18 years and 319 days) youngest batter to do so. Shaw was voted Player of the Series after India’s ten-wicket victory in the second Test. February 5, 2020, Prithivi played in his first ODI for India against New Zealand. Additionally, he was chosen for the test series in New Zealand, where he played 4 innings and scored one half-century. Prithivi was chosen for the test team for the Australian tour in 2020. Shaw’s batting technique was questioned after he struggled in the first Test against Australia in December 2020, scoring 0 and 4, and he was benched for the following game. On July 25, 2021, he played his first T20 International for India against Sri Lanka.
