Rajat Patidar Called Up to India Test Squad Following Kohli’s Absence

Rajasthan batter Rajat Patidar has been called up to India’s Test team to replace Virat Kohli, who has had to miss the first two Tests against England for personal reasons. Andre Patidar was in Ahmedabad, where India A is playing England Lions. He will get to Hyderabad later on Wednesday.

India didn’t have any backup specialist batters in the Test squad besides KS Bharat and Dhruv Jurel. Head coach Rahul Dravid stated that one of them would play as the specialist wicketkeeper since Kohli wasn’t available.

Patidar’s Stellar Form

Patidar hit 151 off of 158 balls in the first four-day match, which was against an England Lions attack that had three internationals. Numbers are very good for the 30-year-old: 4000 first-class runs, with 12 hundred, at an average of 45.97 an over. In December, Patidar played his first ODI match against South Africa.

When asked if India had thought about a bowler with more experience as a replacement, captain Rohit Sharma said it was important to give players who haven’t played much before a chance.

Rohit’s Perspective on Squad Choices

Choosing an experienced player was something we did think about, but when are these younger stars going to get their chance? “We also thought of that,” Rohit said before the first Test in Hyderabad. Because of how many runs they’ve scored, how much experience they have, and how many games they’ve won, it’s hard to leave out or not even try an experienced player.

Rohit’s Perspective on Squad Choices

It’s hard to ignore all of that, but sometimes you need to bring certain people into the game and make sure they have a good time. Not letting them play in public or taking them on a tour abroad where they haven’t played before is not what you want to do. That’s the way of thinking that led to all of that. We must try to bring some of these kids in whenever we can.

In a five-match series, India and England will play their first Test match on January 25 in Hyderabad.
