Shreyas Iyer and Shivam Dube were Sidelined for the Ranji Trophy Quarter-Final against Baroda

It has been learned that Shreyas Iyer will not be able to play in Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy quarter-final because of back pain. Mumbai won’t have the healthy Shivam Dube for the first round of the playoffs against Baroda, which starts on February 23 at home.

This year, Iyer played in one round of the Ranji Trophy to get ready for the Test series against England. He was picked to play in the first two games of that series. He wasn’t picked for the last three Tests, though, because his scores in Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad were 27, 29, 35, and 13. Even though Iyer had back pain right after the second Test, he still cleared to play for India.

Iyer’s Remarkable Comeback

Shreyas Iyer missed the IPL 2023 and beyond due to a back injury until the Asia Cup in September, soon before the ODI World Cup at home. After batting only once in the Asia Cup, he scored 530 runs in the World Cup at 66.25 and 113.24, with two hundred and three half-centuries. He returned to the Test team for the South Africa trip and the first two Tests against England at home.

Iyer has just over a month to heal before leading Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL after missing the last season with a back issue.

In addition to injuries, the BCCI will closely monitor India’s centrally-contracted players’ absence after board secretary Jay Shah wrote to them last week to not prioritize IPL over domestic cricket.

In this Ranji season, Dube has averaged 67.83 and struck 82.38. His 117 off 130 saved Mumbai from 86 for 6 in the second innings against Uttar Pradesh, but they lost by two wickets. Last week, he scored an 87-ball century with five sixes against Assam to help Mumbai win its fifth league game in seven and top Group B. He has also bowled 67 overs in seven innings for 12 wickets at 12.08 and 23 maidens this season.

International players Prithvi Shaw, Shardul Thakur, and Dhawal Kulkarni will join Ajinkya Rahane in Mumbai.
