Shubman Gill Hits an Incredible ODI Double Century to Join Exclusive Club

Shubman Gill after hitting a stunning double century against New Zealand

Just over a month after Ishan Kishan made 200 in a One-Day International against Bangladesh, Shubman Gill has scored his own ODI double century against New Zealand in the first game of the series.

In pursuit of making 208*, he has become the youngest batsman (23y 132d) to hit a double hundred in the international 50-over format.

His innings included 19 fours and nine sixes. Besides, he hit Lockie Ferguson for three consecutive maximums to reach the milestone of 200. The second-highest score in the innings was 34, by the Indian skipper.

Gill has also become the fastest Indian batsman to make 1000 runs in ODIs. It took him only 19 innings to get there, and he already has three centuries to his name.

India ended up on 349/8 and will now look to defend this considerable total.

Sometimes it looks like making a double hundred in ODIs is too easy for the Indian openers. Sachin was the first to do it, and Virender Sehwag followed. Then Rohit Sharma hit 200 thrice, including his 264, which is still the best individual score in an ODI.

Recently, Ishan Kishan achieved the same feat. And, today, Shubman Gill has become the fifth Indian and eighth batsman overall to make an ODI double century.

Michael Bracewell came extremely close to spoiling Gills’ party in the exact match.
