Suryakumar Yadav Gets T20I Cricketer of the Year 2022 Award

SKY is the limit. After some out-of-this-world performances by Suryakumar Yadav throughout 2022, he has been awarded the T20I Cricketer of the Year award by the ICC.
SKY has had a year that many dream of. He hit over 1100 runs at an unreal strike rate of 187.43. Moreover, he’d hit 68 sixes in 2022 as he went on his mission to destroy bowling lineups.
Scoring a century in T20 internationals is itself an achievement. But scoring it twice in a year, and that too away from home? That’s Suryakumar’s thing.
The only regret that people have sometimes is that SKY made his debut very late. They wonder what he could have done if he had started playing international cricket in his early 20s.
It has not even been two years since his debut, and Yadav is already regarded as one of the greatest T20I players of all time. It shouldn’t be a surprise because there aren’t a lot of players who can match his clean hitting and match-winning ability.
Not only does Surya make those runs, but the rate at which he makes them is incredible. A strike-rate of almost 200 and an average of over 46 deservingly make him the T20I Cricketer of the Year for 2022.
Here’s what he had to say after receiving the award:
“Thank you ICC, for naming me T20I Cricketer of the Year. It’s a great feeling, and 2022 has been amazing for me. From a personal point of view, I really enjoyed a few knocks I played that year. If I had to pick one knock which I feel was special and very close to me, then it was my first hundred for my country. The first hundred is always special. Hopefully, many more knocks to come”

His first century came against England in Nottingham. Chasing 216, he rescued India from 31/3 and almost pulled off an unthinkable chase making 117 off 55. It would have been an inning for the ages if he had taken India through.
He chose New Zealand to score his second century. In a game where no other batsman found it easy to score, he made 111*(51), hitting 7 sixes and 11 fours. The second-highest score was 36.
And just to put things into perspective, the partnership between him and Pandya was 82 from 41 balls. Hardik made 13(13).
Suryakumar Yadav ended the year at top of the T20I rankings. Besides, he is just 7 points away from becoming the highest-rated T20I batsman of all time. With India’s series against New Zealand starting tomorrow, we might be in for a treat.
The fans can’t wait to see the new T20I cricketer of the year in action.
