Wharton’s Whirlwind Century Powers Yorkshire to Victory in T20 Blast 2023

James Wharton, a twenty-two-year-old batsman, scored his first T20 Blast century (111* off 56; 16 fours, 3 sixes), and Dawid Malan scored 79 as Yorkshire scored 224/4 and defeated Worcestershire by 26 runs to go up to third place in the standings.

Before Jordan Thompson chose four in his team’s successful defence of the enormous total, the two Yorkshire bats’ 159-run stand off just 79 balls propelled the batting squad well above the 200-run barrier. Yorkshire scored 224/4 after Dawid Malan scored 79 and James Wharton hammered his first T20 Blast century (111* off 56; 16 fours, 3 sixes). Wharton was the hero of the match as his maiden Hundred helped to post big total and eventually won the match.

Worcestershire didn’t give up easily; captain Brett D’Oliviera gave the top order some momentum with 47 off 31 while Kashif Ali kept the chase going with an unbeaten 48 off just 27 balls. Worcestershire concluded with 198 for 6 in 20 overs, but Thompson threw a wrench in their plans by upsetting the middle-order.
