Will Pucovski Recovers: Resumes Batting After Helmet Blow

Will Pucovski has passed a concussion test and is now okay to bat again after having to stop because he was hurt after being hit in the head during a Victoria 2nd XI game.

South Australian paceman David Grant hit him on the helmet as he tried to hit a hook shot. This is the latest scary thing that has happened with the 25-year-old.

After making 42 runs, Pucovski was told he could keep playing in the game on Monday at Adelaide’s Karen Rolton Oval, but he got hurt and had to leave the field. Soon after, he was given the all-clear to start his games again.

Pucovski Passes Concussion Test

“Pucovski passed a concussion test before batting in the netts and was given the all-clear to play again,” a statement from Cricket Victoria said. “He will be monitored through the day and the rest of the game.”

After missing 11 games with injuries and taking time off for mental health issues in 2022, Pucovski has returned to cricket this summer. He played one Test in January 2021. Pucovski, who is thought to be one of Australia’s best young hitters, took a year off from cricket before coming back.

He dislocated his shoulder in the field after scoring 62 in the first innings on Test debut against India at the SCG.

He scored 66 in three Sheffield Shield games this season and played for Victoria in a tour game against Pakistan.

Pucovski played for Weybridge Cricket Club in the Surrey Championship last winter. He scored 614 runs at 55.82 in 18 matches, including a century and four half-centuries.

Since debuting for Victoria in February 2017, Pucovski has not played a full domestic season. He came closest in the 2019-20 season, playing the first half of the summer for Victoria, four List A and six Shield matches, before taking an extended hiatus in December and returning in 2020-21.
