Women umpires Rathi, Janani, and Gayathri create Ranji Trophy record

The trio, who are very well-known in the women circuit, became the tournament’s 1st female umpires. Gayathri, a former cricketer whose career was halted by injuries, is now umpiring in Jamshedpur in the second-round match between Jharkhand and Chhatisgarh. Janani, formerly a software engineer, is umpiring the Railways vs. Tripura tournament in Surat, whereas Rathi, a former scorer, is in command of the Goa vs. Pondicherry event in Porvorim.

These three women, created history when the BCCI decided to deploy women umpires for the men’s national tournament. Anani and Rathi are experienced umpires who were also named to the ICC’s committee of training umpires in 2020.
